//This Château is set in a small village, Saint Pey-de-Castet, near to Saint Emilion in France. The project consisted of a complete renovation from the roof down. The Château has a western façade remaining from the priory built in1471, however certain parts date as far back as the XII century. The rest of the Château and surrounding outbuildings were built in the 1800's.
The Château was in an uninhabitable state, with varying degrees of damage sustained to the main timber roof structure, walls, floors and masonry. Most damage had been caused by water, some structural movement and a general lack of maintenance.
All systems, such as plumbing, electricity and heating were replaced and modern facilities/amenities added to bring the château into the XXI century. Large parts of the roof were repaired, insulation added, new windows installed where necessary, stone walls stripped back, cement renders removed and walls treated sympathetically to ensure their longevity. Interior partition walls were rebuilt, the floor plan and programme of some spaces changed slightly to suit a more contemporary lifestyle. Parts of the floor were placed or repaired,1960's finishes and additions were stripped back to reveal original features. Local materials were sourced and where possible original materials from local salvage yards used.
The interior finishes and overall design were styled to mix contemporary comforts with locally sourced antiques and artworks. The resulting spaces are calm, paired back and elegant with a sense of timelessness.
The project took one year to complete, using a team of talented local tradesmen and craftspeople.
